Large Cream Group Kashmiri Shawl

A magnificent antique Kashmiri Jamawar-style wool shawl, showcasing the pinnacle of historical Indian textile craftsmanship. Comprising a cream coloured central field, elegantly contrasted by a dense, multi-coloured border of traditional paisley (buta) motifs. The design is characterised by its intricate, interlocking patterns rendered in a sophisticated palette of deep reds, blues, and greens.

Each large paisley motif is filled with secondary floral details, characteristic of the Jamawar weaving tradition where the pattern is woven into the fabric. The perimeter is finished with a delicate embroidered band of smaller floral sprigs and a soft, cream-toned fringe, making it a quintessential example of high-prestige Kashmiri artistry.

Condition
The shawl is in very good antique condition, with the colors of the intricate border work remaining vibrant and well-defined. The fine wool base retains its structural integrity and soft handle. As an authentic antique textile, it displays a refined aged character, including minor surface creasing and minor, scattered marks consistent with its age and history. There are also a number of very small moth holes. We can provide detailed images if required.
